Teaching junior high students
Otsukaresama for Christmas meeting !!! I just wonder how many ppl are teaching Junior Highs?
I wonder how to have develop meaningful communication activities in the classroom from junior high text books. Please let me know if you got some ideas.
As for me. I don’t use junior high text book for my lessons. Instead of that, teaching material…mondaishu for cram schools I use…it’s called “i work”. And I also use Eiken mondaishu. I’m thinking of using junior highs text book for 6 th graders. They study Eiken 5th grade now.
Ahh, Junior High. I totally hated teaching at Junior High when I was on the JET program….but I guess that is why I opened my own school for elementary school kids!
My advice would be to try and take the grammar points they are studying in school and direct it toward conversational english through drama (plays, skits). While they can be terribly shy, I think it is important to encourage expressing themselves during puberty!!
